DESIGNATED FUNDS
Support Your Favorite Causes Forever with a Designated Fund
When you open a Designated Endowment Fund, you ensure your favorite nonprofit organizations and causes receive an annual stream of income—forever—to help them sustain a vibrant future. You can honor your family or the memory of loved ones by naming the fund after them.
Maximize Your Charitable Impact
Each year, the Foundation distributes approximately $2 million in grants from Designated Endowment Funds. These grants allow nonprofits to continue their important work such as feeding the hungry, educating students, and supporting new programs at synagogues and day schools.
How It Works
Your endowed fund is pooled into a diversified portfolio, managed by expert investment professionals. Our strategy protects the principal and grows the fund’s asset value, expanding your grant dollars in perpetuity.
- Select the cause or organization you want to support and name your fund (e.g., the Reuben Family Fund). Provide a gift of $5,000 or more (e.g., cash, stocks, real estate, or other assets), or build up to this level over two to five years.
- Every year, approximately 4 percent of the asset value of your fund is granted to your designated organization while we continue to maintain, invest and grow your Designated Endowed Fund’s assets.
- The Foundation handles all administrative requirements and provides detailed reports to you and your designated organization.

We looked at other foundations, but I could feel my mother’s heart at the Jewish Community Foundation. She was a strong member of the Jewish community in Hartford. Working with the Jewish Community Foundation on my mother’s fund was an easy process.

The Sharon Levine-Shein and Bruce Shein Fund for Jewish Family Services supports the Anja Rosenberg Kosher Food Pantry, a critical community resource serving more than 1,000 individuals facing food insecurity.
