| Cemetery Maintenance | $3,000 | The Jewish War Veterans Cemetery is the most frequently visited cemetery of the Association of Jewish Cemeteries of Greater Hartford, often by Jewish veterans and their families on national holidays, and for yahrzeits and other observances. Keeping it properly maintained is the responsibility of our entire community. The Association needs to remove a crushed and rusted chain link fence and gate and replace it with iron fencing in order to create a more welcoming and respectful environment for Jewish war veterans and their families. |

| Inside Interfaith Marriage | $2,000 | Chai: The Center for Jewish Life seeks funding to pilot a 4-session discussion group, co-sponsored by Jewish Family Services, for interfaith couples called, “Inside Interfaith Marriage” based on the book of the same name by Jim Keen, a non-Jewish father raising his children as Jews. Mr. Keen is regularly published on interfaithfamily.com. The curriculum was developed through the Union for Reform Judaism’s Reform Jewish Outreach in Boston, MA. It addresses the challenges of raising children in an interfaith family, provides support to partners from other faith backgrounds raising Jewish children and provides valuable opportunities to discuss life cycle events, holiday celebrations and family life issues. |

| Rekindle Shabbat | $3,000 | Chai: The Center for Jewish Life seeks funding for “Rekindle Shabbat,” which offers families the chance to share Friday night experiences in the home. Families join with other households for four Friday night Shabbat celebrations over the course of the year. Funding would supply a Shabbat ‘kit’ containing ritual items for the entire family, a ritual guide and a one-hour interactive educational session for adults – a $200 value per family. “Rekindle Shabbat” programs are currently taking place in the Springfield and North Shore, Massachusetts Jewish communities. |

| Grandparents’ Circle | $2,000 | Chai: The Center for Jewish Life seeks funding to run a 5-session group called “The Grandparents’ Circle,” a much needed educational and support program for Jewish grandparents whose children have intermarried and who have grandchildren being raised in an interfaith home. In Spring 2008 the Chai Center ran this program with 22 participants from West Hartford, Avon, Simsbury, Windsor, Bloomfield, Torrington and Newington with affiliations to Beth David Synagogue, FVJC-Emek Shalom, Beth Hillel Synagogue, Beth El – Torrington, The Emanuel Synagogue and some that were unaffiliated. The program met a well-documented need for those grandparents in our community who want to pass their Jewish heritage and traditions on to the next generation under what can be very sensitive circumstances. The feedback we received from the evaluations were very positive. The Chai Center plans to partner with area synagogues and Jewish agencies to market the program and recruit up to 20 participants. |
