An Easy to Understand Explanation
The value of a gift of stock is the average of the high and low selling prices on the date of the gift. The gift date depends on how delivery is made:
- By first class mail...it is the postmark date.
- By overnight carrier...it is the date of receipt by the Jewish Community Foundation.
- By electronic transfer (DTC)...it is the date the security is received in the Jewish Community Foundation's brokerage account.
- By re-registering the stock into the Jewish Community Foundation's name...it is the date of entry on the books of the issuer or the date on the new stock certificate(s).
- By hand delivery...it is the date the Jewish Community Foundation receives the security.
Remember - delivery requires a properly endorsed stock certificate or a properly endorsed stock power that accompanies an unendorsed certificate.
