Program Description

Hartford Jewish Film Festival

 $3,000

The 14th Annual Mandell JCC Hartford Jewish Film Festival (March 13-23, 2010) is the largest showcase of Israeli and Jewish films in Connecticut, featuring 30 international and domestic, award-winning Jewish-themed comedies, dramas, documentaries and shorts over ten days screened in seven Greater Hartford venues. This popular event expands in 2010 to include a live children's opera and a student-composed score and concert on closing night to accompany a silent film.

HaZamir Hartford: Jewish High School Choir

$3,000

HaZamir (the “Nightingale” in Hebrew) is a community choir open to all Jewish teens in grades 8-12.  Led by Cantors Joseph Ness and Sanford Cohn, the choir will sing all types of Jewish music at community events and participate in the Zamir Choral Foundation’s annual festival at Carnegie Hall.  

 

Music By The Fireplace

$2,000

A quarterly experiential arts and culture program that reconnects Russian-speaking seniors to their world back in the Former Soviet Union, and connects them to the Jewish holidays and modern traditions.  

 

Visiting Artist Series

$3,000

Through its youth department, a plan is in place to start a program to bring artists in to youth and camp programs that work in various art mediums.  Giving people a taste of arts programs will encourage them to participate in these new cultural programs.
