Israel Experience Scholarships

The Jewish Community Foundation is pleased to administer Israel Experience Scholarships made possible by generous donors who establish scholarship funds here.

These scholarships offer need-based financial assistance for Jewish teenagers and young adults residing in the Greater Hartford region to participate in qualified educational and internship programs in Israel.


Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be of the Jewish faith;
  • Be a high school, college or graduate school student, or recent college graduate;
  • Demonstrate financial need;
  • Be a current resident of the Greater Hartford area;
  • Be a citizen of the United States. 
Priority is given to first-time travelers to Israel.

Specific funds may include unique criteria such as academic interest or community service experience. We will review your general application with these unique criteria in mind and work to match your needs with the right scholarship funds for you.

Incomplete applications may not be considered.  

Our Scholarship Process

Our scholarship committee meets in April and November to review applications and determine the applicant’s eligibility and under which fund(s)the applicant qualifies.

Awards are based on financial need, strong personal commitment to the Jewish community, specific nature of the Israel program, and the student's personal statement


Awards normally range from $250 to $2,000

Deadline and Notification

Application deadlines: March 20 and November 20
Notifications normally take place in April/May and December.

Expectations of Recipients

Recipients of Israel Experience scholarships are expected to complete the educational program in Israel as intended. A full refund of the award is expected if a recipient does not complete the program.

We ask that recipients:

  • Send acknowledgements/thank you letters to the donors who made the scholarship(s) possible
  • Contact the Foundation upon their return from Israel to share their experiences
