Bringing Our Community Voices to Life $3,000 Preserving our Jewish community’s history insures a continuing legacy. Oral histories, recorded on cassette tapes, need to be digitized for preservation, creating greater awareness and encouraging others to share their stories with the community. Jewish Historical Society
Greater Hartford Judaic Antiques Road Show $3,000 How much is my grandfather’s Kiddush cup worth? This is an exciting opportunity for individuals to have a professional evaluation of treasured heirlooms and learn about their historical significance and estimated value. Jewish Historical Society

Teen Shabbat Around The World: Focus Israel $3,000 Open to the entire Jewish teen community, this Shabbat dinner and Israel advocacy program will include creative and traditional services along with an exotic international dinner. Yachad: Greater Hartford Jewish Community High School
Outdoor Adventure Trail

Outdoor play and curriculum should extend beyond the classroom and beyond the fences of traditional playgrounds. A new trail, to be built on the Zachs Community Campus, will aid in making nature and the outdoors become a part of every day learning. Mandell Jewish Community Center
Jewish Environmental Education Specialist $3,000 To better educate campers on sustainability and protecting the environment, Camp Shalom seeks to hire a specialist to help campers create projects such as a tree house and benches using only what nature provides for resources. College Experience

The Hummus Experience $3,000 A Sabra show-down: Student teams will compete for a chance to win a year’s supply of hummus by creating their own signature taste! The hummus concoctions will be judged by students, Hillel’s Director, and a representative from Sabra. UCONN Hillel
Yom Ha’atzam’ut $2,000 Israel’s Independence Day celebration on campus is a great opportunity for Hillel to advocate for Israel in a fun and meaningful way. The event will include music, snacks, games, and educational materials. UCONN Hillel
Yom HaShoah - Great Children's Read $2,500 Elementary school children will meet the author of "How a Cookie Saved My Family," a non-threatening, yet meaningful examination of one family's flight from Nazi Germany and how a cookie recipe saved the family. Hartford Hillel
Meet an award-winning American Jewish writer $2,500 Jewish writers from Greater Hartford will meet this year's Wallant Award winner, Edith Pearlman, for a workshop on contemporary Jewish fiction. Participants will learn tools to become a writer and how to address the modern Jewish experience. Hartford Hillel

Education

Techno-Forward Communications $500 New software will enable multiple students and lay people to video conference at once, creating greater flexibility in planning, communication, online learning and social media. Yachad: Greater Hartford Jewish Community High School
Accreditation $3,000 Accreditation by the prestigious New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) establishes and maintains high standards of educational excellence and utilizes evaluation processes which focus on self-improvement through effective peer review. HHNE would participate in a self-study including faculty, administrators, staff, students, community members, and board members. This process will allow HHNE to be an even more attractive option for Jewish teens. Hebrew High School of New England
Solomon Schechter Day School’s Cafeteria is Going Green! $3,000 The Going Green! program will make SSDS more ecofriendly by purchasing foodservice products that are biodegradable, compostable, and made of annual renewable resources. Solomon Schechter Day School
Upgrading Technology in a Purposeful Way $3,000 SSDS prides itself on the cutting edge technology in its classrooms. Before embarking on its next upgrade, a technology firm will be engaged to conduct an audit of all systems, hardware and software. Solomon Schechter Day School
Successful Living Seminars $3,000 Baby Boomers face many challenges. A three-part series of topical events including healthcare, financial planning, insurance, and elder law will be offered to this cohort.
Local experts will be featured along with Rabbis to provide a Jewish insight. Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford  

Elderly

Rock Away the Stress $2,880 Spending time in a rocking chair is beneficial to overall health and happiness. Rocking chairs for each lounge will be purchased for use by residents, family members and visitors. Hebrew Home and Hospital
Ox-Box Monitor $3,000 Tracking oxygen saturation and pulse rate is vital for indicating how patients react to certain medications. The purchase of an OX-Box monitor will help provide better care to our seniors. Hebrew Home and Hospital
Bingo $1,750 Bingo is the forever favorite activity. Resident bingo calling volunteers, many in their 90's, would enjoy having an air pop machine with large numbered balls, on a rolling cart, for overall improved ease. Federation Homes
Computer Lab $3,000 Currently, the Computer Lab for our residents is equipped with donated or used computers and printers. With the Lab in such high demand, brand new computers and printers would be a welcome addition. Federation Homes 

Social Justice

Julia’s Star $2,000
Fully funded
At the age of 15, Johanna Justin-Jinich, wrote “Julia’s Star,” a book on religious tolerance. After Johanna, a Wesleyan University student, became the unfortunate victim of a hate crime, her family chose to cement her legacy by publishing the book. It is now being developed into a curriculum for use in classrooms and community programs in order to educate students about Judaism and overcoming prejudice. Anti-Defamation League

Special Populations

Always on the Go! $3,000 Doctor appointments, field trips and the grocery store – cars never stop! 1 to 2 vehicles in a fleet of 12 must be replaced annually to insure safe operating conditions at all times. Jewish Association of Community Living
Don't Just Talk…WALK! $3,000 Research shows that exercise can be as helpful for anxiety as medication. A therapy group for adults with anxiety disorders will meet for group discussion AND walk outdoors as part of their treatment. Jewish Family Services
Support for Parents of Special Needs Kids: A Jewish Perspective $3,000
Fully funded
The demands of caring for children with special needs can be overwhelming and isolating. A support group for caregiver parents will allow participants to share coping strategies, community resources and behavior management skills within a Jewish perspective. Jewish Family Services

Israel

A Special Camp $2,500
$210 funded
Arts and crafts, sports, swimming and more. In association with Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camps, the Jordan River Village offers children who are seriously ill or have a life-threatening disease the opportunity to spend a week at camp for fun and excitement. Jordan River Village
CT-Israel Technology Summit $3,000 JCRC and the MetroHartford Alliance will sponsor the 2nd Annual CT-Israel Technology Forum, a day long workshop and an ongoing effort to create partnerships and expand business and economic development between Israel and Hartford. Sarah Herzog Children’s Center - Afulah $2,000
Fully funded
Over 140 Israeli children who have been abused, neglected or abandoned are brought to this center to help them overcome their pasts, and move on to bright and productive futures. Emunah America
